Apple has released its iOS 8.1 software update containing several fixes and improvements, including support for Apple Pay, although this is available only in the US at present.
The update will annoy those who have limited space left on their iPhones, as 2.2GB of space is required for installation. Apple already angered some users with the iOS 8 update which required 5GB of space.
One installed, though, the update offers several enhancements, chief of which is the ability to use the Apple Pay system to pay for goods via the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch.
The service will arrive in Europe in 2015, and Visa is set to implement the technology on some 1.5 million terminals in stores around the continent.
Other updates include the return of Camera Roll, and iCloud Photo Library in beta, which allows the management of a single photo library across multiple devices using iCloud storage space.
Macbook owners running Yosemite will also be able to make use of new Continuity features included in iOS 8.1.
SMS relay is one of the features included in the update, allowing Mac users to receive messages from non-iPhone wielding friends on their laptop or desktop computer, while Instant Hotspot allows you to connect your iPad or Mac to your iPhone easily by selecting it in the list of available WiFi networks.
The update also includes five security fixes, covering issues in iCloud, Keyboard and Bluetooth. The update works on iPhone 4 and later iPhones, iPad 2 and later tablets and iPod touch (fifth generation) and later models.
The update is available to download over the air via Settings > General > Software Update. The size of the download can be reduced if updated via iTunes.
